MONTAGUE, P.E.I. — Affiliated player Zack MacKay scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Hynes Paving Maniacs to a 5-4 victory over the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers on Tuesday night.
The Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague was the site of the Island Junior Hockey League game.
MacKay’s goal at 10:59 of the third period broke a 4-4 tie and proved to be the game-winner. Cameron Nelson (2) and Bret Cheverie also scored for the Maniacs, who improved to 5-17-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Nick Steele (2), Hunter McIntyre, Jason Poley and Jake MacLaren earned assists.
Dylan Wheatley (2-1), Tyler Gallant and Tayler Read countered for the Vipers (9-9-1), who led 2-0 after the first period and rallied from a 4-2 deficit after 40 minutes to tie the game 4-4 in the third period. Nick Trainor (4), Riley Gallant (2) and Ryan Richards picked up helpers.
Winning goaltender Nicholas Jamieson blocked 28 of 32 shots. Ben Parent made 32 saves on 37 tests for the Vipers.
