The Island Peace Committee (IPC) will join the Canadian Peace Alliance in a pan-Canadian day of action this weekend to oppose war and sanctions on Iran.

Anti-war actions will take place around the world.

On Jan. 3, the United States conducted airstrikes near the Baghdad airport in Iraq, killing seven people, including Qassem Soleimani, a leading military figure in Iran’s government.

The IPC is calling on the government of Canada to denounce this assassination, which has been condemned widely as a war crime and a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty.

The peace rally takes place Saturday, Jan. 11, 2 p.m., in front of the Coles Building on Richmond Street in Charlottetown.

Participants are encouraged to bring a sign and listen to the speakers and music during the event and then head to Timothy’s World Coffee for tea following the event.
