CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission says it is targeting an early- to mid-March opening for its specialty store in the Founders’ Food Hall and Market on the Charlottetown waterfront.

The specialty store, the latest addition to the growing market, is expected to take up about 2,500 square feet of space just inside the main entrance to the market.

Jamie MacLeod, acting CEO of the commission, said the store will focus on supplying and educating customers on premium products that aren’t available in standard liquor stores.

The store will also carry P.E.I.-made products.

The breakdown in the store is as follows — 300 varieties of wine, 180 varieties of spirits, 50 varieties of beer and 20 varieties of ready-to-drink beverages, including ciders.

“A number of the offerings will be changed regularly to ensure a constantly-refreshed assortment,’’ MacLeod said.

The new store will also include a combination tasting and training room for events and seminars, providing a venue for agents and suppliers to further engage with the public, license holders and P.E.I. liquor staff.

The room will also be used for staff training and may be made available for rent to businesses or organizations to host events, such as meetings, luncheons or banquets.
